I had some old defaults in my config that I was just ignoring. Need to do some cleanup...
I guess once I got it working, I didn't mess with it anymore.

Are you using all of the available "authLDAP" config values?
In my case, the updater re-enables configuration values I have explicitly commented out. Things like:
'authLDAPBindDn'
'authLDAPBindPass'
'authLDAPOrganization'
'authLDAPUsernameAttr'
'authLDAPEmailAttr'
'authLDAPMemberKey'
'authLDAPMemberRole'
When they get re-enabled, authentication fails because none of the values are applicable or correct.
