From brian at lifetrends.com Mon Oct 3 14:53:08 2022 From: brian at lifetrends.com (Brian Smith) Date: Mon, 3 Oct 2022 13:53:08 +0000 Subject: [ZendTo] Issue: Sorry, I failed to drop-off your files! References: Message-ID: Hello, I'm having an issue with a particular file not uploading. All other files I've tested work, but a small file being uploaded by a person outside our company receives this error message: "Sorry, I failed to drop-off your files! Note that you cannot drop-off directories, only files." The file is a single .exe file that is less than 1MB, and it fails during the "Uploading..." stage. My only guess is that it is getting flagged as a virus, but I cannot find any detection logs. Is this the error that will be shown in the event of a detection? If so, is there any way to view that in the logs? Or, barring that, is there anything else that could cause someone to see this error? There doesn't even seem to be a record of the upload attempt in the logs. Thanks, -Brian -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... My ZendTo is Version 6.11-2 running on Ubuntu Server 20.04. I have checked for upgrades and it appears I am up to date. This is not urgent, I found the information I was seeking in the zendto.log file. I see no response when I left-click the "Export as CSV" button. In Windows applications this usually brings up a dialog asking where to store the .CSV file. Is ZendTo writing out a CSV file someplace? Where? I tried using find to locate it but did not find anything. Then there is the "Show or hide:" line. There I do not see any indication of what is selected or deselected. If I left-click a word there is no change. If I double-left-click a word, such as All, in that line it becomes highlighted, but this also happens with any word anyplace on the screen. I looked through the archives back to October 2019 and did not see any subject lines mentioning anything to do with this. The problem appears to be that freshclam timed out while fetching the main AV signature database into /var/lib/clamav/main.cvd. As a result, the service clamav-daemon won't start. Do ??? systemctl status clamav-daemon and you'll see what I mean. But freshclam's attempts to get it failed, so it got blocked by the CDN and isn't allowed to try again for another 24 hours. There appears to be no way of manually bypassing this. In ClamAV 105 they have improved the download code so that it abandons an attempt to download signatures if the download doesn't appear to be making progress. Whether this actually helps with this problem, I'm not sure as I'm blocked until late tomorrow afternoon whatever. I think they used to ship the main AV signatures with the package, so it worked out of the box. It now relies on their CDN and freshclam to download the signatures, and that doesn't always succeed. So you're dead in the water until it does. Poo. :-( Anyone got any ideas on this one? I don't want to make the Installer manually fetch it from clamav.net as then upgrades aren't automatic, I want to use repos wherever possible. Cheers, Jules. They've stopped shipping the main AV signatures in the standard package, and now seem to require you to fetch them from their (not very reliable) download service. They've stopped shipping the main AV signatures in the standard package, and now seem to require you to fetch them from their (not very reliable) download service. Until that succeeds, ClamAV is "dead in the water" and cannot start. Doing systemctl status clamav-daemon will show you if it's failed in that state or not. Cheers, Jules. The improvements over the previous version are relatively minor, but importantly include updates to all the libraries and dependencies, which fixes a few security vulnerabilities in them. The ZendTo Installer should now also handle Ubuntu 22, RedHat 9 and Rocky 9 correctly. And the "upgrade" command now also checks for more configuration settings in Apache than it did, to help ensure you're running a more secure server. It's quite talkative, so you'll see it do it. You do a "do-release-upgrade" on a Ubuntu 18 system to get to Ubuntu 20, and ZendTo totally breaks. Instead of displaying its main menu, it wants to download a file. :-( It appears this in-place upgrade process totally breaks PHP. You are left with little fragments of 2 different versions of PHP installed, neither of which do anything useful. The fix is easy: Download, unpack and run the ZendTo Installer from https://zend.to/files/install.ZendTo.tgz Only say "y" to installing PHP and its modules, you can just say "n" to all the other sections. Then either reboot or ??? sudo systemctl restart apache2 and you should be up and running again. If clicking once on a column and then (after a short delay) again on the same column, doesn't make that column appear/disappear from the table below, then something's gone wrong. Well, I normally use Firefox, but this morning I tried Chrome, Edge, and even Internet Explorer on a variety of Windows computers ranging from WIndows 10 to WIndows XP, all gave the same results as reported earlier, nothing appears after clicking the "Export as CSV" button, nothing in the Downloads directory. Tried logging on as Administrator, used my mobile as a hotspot to see if that made any difference, still the same results. Then I used two Linux live-USB drives I had handy, one is Ubuntu 16.04 and the other one is Kali Linux (from sometime during 2021), those both have Firefox for a browser. Tried both those Linux versions using both the in-house Wi-Fi as well as my mobile as a hotspot, got the same results, nothing appears after clicking the "Export as CSV" button and nothing in the Downloads directory. So if you could provide a bit of guidance I suppose the next thing to do is to do a repair/reinstall of ZendTo?
