[ZendTo] problem installing zend.to with installer script

Greg,

Can you send me an "ls -la" and an "ls -laZ" of the directory
/root/zendto-build-store/php5-5.5.9+dfsg/mysql_db
please?

The other possibility is AppArmor.
Try adding a line exactly like this:
/root/zendto-build-store//* rw,
to the end of the file (create it if it doesn't exist, and make its
permissions the same as any other files in there or in /etc/apparmor.d)
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.mysqld
then
sudo start apparmor ACTION=force-reload

Then give it another go.

I'm building a test VM from scratch for you to see exactly what it does
for me.
Unfortunately as packages (such as MySQL) change, they can break things
that previously worked.

Let me know how you get on, and I'll try it myself too.

Cheers,
Jules.
