[ZendTo] automatic cleanup of old files not occurring -- where to I start troubleshooting?

Yes, I suspected as much – I can’t find reference to the cron jobs in the online docs despite being there in what’s installed on my servers. Install is 4.11.something, but it was done in an unusual way to meet our needs for putting it on a farm for HA (instances behind an f5 with all the files in the pool members on a gluster mount).

Thank you for the reply, Kris.

How old is your installation? I'm guessing that the cronjobs were rolled into *.deb and *.rpm releases, so references or the link to the "handroll" installation were removed.

Replying to myself, first, I’m sorry if that last message came through as something other than plain text – it wasn’t meant to. I’m cursed with Outlook+Exchange.

Next, I kept looking through the list archives and noticed this email where Seth Turner has a cron job run by root to execute cleanup.php – I’ll try that approach, combined with an abundance of caution in the form of extra backups the first time.

That lead me to “locate zend |grep cron”, which lead me to a crontab.html page in zendto docs someone had moved out of the normal location…and that in turn says these three crontab entries should be added to /etc/cron.d/zendto.

It appears I have an answer.

I would still appreciate any other thoughts / advice, as well as any pointers to where this is in the docs online that I’ve missed, as the docs in my installation appear to have been intentionally moved to an inaccessible spot.

Hello,

I inherited a zend.to<http://zend.to> installation that’s been working well afaict except that it’s not automatically removing old files…which seems to be unexpected based on the presence of cleanup.php and on this discussion in the list archives:

http://mailman.ecs.soton.ac.uk/pipermail/zendto/2015-March/thread.html

I’m not sure where to start troubleshooting though. Any advice? Is there any documentation on what’s supposed to kick off the cleanup?

I have checked to be sure that the apache user has the permissions necessary to remove the folders and files in question (and tested doing so on one sample file).

I pondered running cleanup.php by hand as root and passing in the preferences.php file…but this is a production system where I don’t have confidence that action would be safe.
