[ZendTo] Date format

When looking at drop-offs and such in Zendto, the date is always specified in D-M-Y format (European style).  The templates refer to date-euro.  I haven't found any comments indicating what I should set that to, to get the date in American style format, i.e. M-D-Y.  Is this a PHPism?

Any possibility in future releases of defining the date format in preferences.php so it's "one stop shopping" to change it rather than editing multiple templates?
